چکیده
Mechanism of production of Parkinsonian symptoms The clinical features that result when the 'extrapyramidal' motor system is involved in disease are often highly characteristic, but unfortunately not yet well understood. Explanation of symptoms of Parkinson's disease is difficult not only because of their complexity but also by difficulties in interpreting the pathological material. There are few pathological changes, the most consistent appearing to be the loss of nerve cells from the substantia nigra and of myelinated fibres from the globus pallidus and depletion of dopamine in the globus pallidus. However, it is important that the clinical features are recognized before attempts are made to understand the underlying mechanism of production of symptoms in the light of present knowledge. One of the commonest and earliest symptoms of parkinsonism is tremor consisting of rhythmic alternating movements of opposing muscle groups with a frequency of about 6/sec. The tremor is usually confined to one hand or less commonly the foot and

OBJECTIVES To document the nature, distribution, and frequency of dystonic symptoms in progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP). METHODS Charts and videotapes of all clinically diagnosed patients with PSP seen between 1983 and 1993 were reviewed and the occurrence, nature, and distribution of all dystonic symptoms were recorded. RESULTS Of 83 identified cases 38 had some dystonic features. Twen...

Objective(s): The aim of the present study was to evaluate antioxidant and methyl donor effects of betaine in cerebellum following levodopa and benserazide administration in rats. Materials and Methods: Sprague-Dawley male rats were treated with levodopa (LD), betaine (Bet), levodopa plus betaine (LD/Bet), levodopa plus benserazide (LD/Ben), levodopa plus betaine-benserazide (LD/Bet-Ben), and t...
متن کاملClinical Analysis of Blepharospasm and Apraxia of Eyelid Opening in Patients with Parkinsonism
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Blepharospasm (BSP) and apraxia of eyelid opening (AEO) have been reported as dystonia related with parkinsonism. However, systematic analysis of clinical characteristics of BSP and AEO in parkinsonism has been seldom reported. To investigate the clinical characteristics of BSP and AEO in parkinsonism and to find out the clinical significance to differentiate parkinsonism...

Introduction: Betaine has been demonstrated to have methyl donor and antioxidant properties in our previous reports. Thus, the aim of the present study was to determine plasma homocysteine concentration and evaluate antioxidant activity of betaine following levodopa and benserazide administration, which routinely are used in treatment of Parkinson’s disease in liver of rats. Methods: Sprague–...
متن کاملTHERMODYNAMIC STUDY OF LEVODOPA DRUG ADSORPTION ON ZIGZAG BORON NITRIDE NANOTUBES BY DENSITY FUNCTIONAL THEORY (DFT) METHOD
Background & Aims: The overall goal of utilizing nanotubes in drug delivery is to treat a disease effectively with minimum side effects and control the drug release rate. With common methods of taking the medication, such as orally and intravenously, the drug is distributed throughout the body, and the whole body is affected by the drug, and adverse side effects occur. With the development of n...
